  • 180 days of access
  • 100 % online, at your own pace
  • Level: beginner · No prior crypto knowledge required
  • Assessment: 10 quizzes (50 questions) and a final project
  • Internship agreement included
  • Certificate with a verifiable QR code
  • Languages: Spanish, English, French
  • Price: €200

Who it is for

  • People aiming for a junior compliance or AML analyst role at a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) or fintech
  • Finance professionals who need to assess crypto products, stablecoins or tokenised assets for clients
  • Analysts moving into digital-asset research who need valuation methods beyond discounted cash flow
  • Anyone who wants a regulation-first understanding of crypto without writing code

What do you need to start?

Prior knowledge

  • No prior knowledge of cryptocurrencies or blockchain is needed; the first module builds the shared vocabulary
  • No programming: the materials state the analyst's work does not require writing code
  • Basic arithmetic, for ratios such as reserve coverage, NVT and MVRV and Senate vote counts

Software and equipment

  • A computer with an internet connection
  • Web access to public sources such as ESMA's register of authorised CASPs
  • No licence for blockchain analytics software (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic) is provided; the course teaches how to read their risk reports

What you'll be able to do

  • Classify a cryptoasset into the correct MiCA category: e-money token, asset-referenced token or other cryptoasset
  • Compare Proof of Work and Proof of Stake by security, decentralisation and energy trade-offs
  • Assess whether a custody arrangement exposes client assets to counterparty risk, using MiCA safeguarding rules
  • Verify a claimed CASP authorisation against ESMA's public register
  • Calculate a stablecoin issuer's reserve coverage ratio from disclosed balance-sheet figures
  • Apply risk-based KYC tiering and Travel Rule checks to a transfer and decide whether to escalate
  • Interpret NVT, MVRV, active addresses and TVL to judge whether a token's price reflects real usage
  • Determine the stage a US bill such as the CLARITY Act has reached, including cloture arithmetic

Skills you will practise

  • MiCA taxonomy
  • CASP authorisation
  • Custody and segregation
  • EMT and ART stablecoins
  • AML/KYC tiering
  • Travel Rule
  • Blockchain analytics risk scores
  • On-chain metrics (NVT, MVRV)
  • Howey test
  • ESMA CASP register

Syllabus

  1. Money, trust and the case for cryptoassets: fundamentals and the MiCA taxonomy — The trust problem, double spending, and MiCA's three categories of cryptoasset, with the licence-and-passport system built on them. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  2. Blockchain and consensus: from Bitcoin's PoW to Ethereum's Merge, DeFi and Layer-2 — How blockchains agree without a central authority, why Ethereum now uses staking, and what smart contracts, Layer-2 networks and 51% attacks really involve. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  3. Wallets, custody and the lessons of FTX — What wallets actually store, self-custody versus CASP custody, and what a compliant segregation regime requires, tested against the FTX collapse. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  4. MiCA in practice: CASPs, whitepapers and the single European passport — CASP authorisation, whitepaper disclosure duties, passporting across the EU, ongoing supervision and DORA incident reporting, and checking ESMA's register. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  5. Regulated stablecoins: Terra/UST, MiCA's EMT/ART and the US GENIUS Act — Classifying stablecoins by backing model, calculating reserve coverage, and comparing MiCA with the GENIUS Act, with lessons from Terra/UST's collapse. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  6. Compliance in practice: AML/KYC, the Travel Rule and blockchain analytics tools — Risk-based KYC tiering, Travel Rule data and self-hosted wallet verification, and what a blockchain-analytics risk score does and does not prove. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  7. Token valuation: on-chain metrics, DeFi and the Howey question after SEC v. Ripple — Why discounted cash flow rarely applies to tokens, on-chain metrics, moving averages and RSI, and the Howey test after SEC v. Ripple. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  8. Institutional adoption: spot ETFs, corporate treasuries and real-world asset tokenisation — What a spot crypto ETF share provides, the risks of holding crypto in a corporate treasury, and how tokenisation changes settlement but not underlying risk. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  9. US market structure in flux: reading the CLARITY Act as it happens — Tracking a bill through the US legislative process, Senate cloture arithmetic, and why the SEC/CFTC jurisdiction question matters to compliance work. · reading and a 5-question quiz
  10. Career paths: compliance/AML analyst roles in EU fintech hubs — Reading real job postings, mapping each requirement to course skills, and building a scored, evidence-based case for a candidate's readiness. · reading and a 5-question quiz

Internship agreement

With this course, an intern could support a compliance or AML team at a crypto-asset service provider or fintech: reviewing flagged transfers, checking Travel Rule data, preparing KYC files and verifying counterparties on ESMA's CASP register. Other possible areas include reviewing stablecoin reserve disclosures or custody arrangements, or assisting a digital-asset research team with on-chain metrics.

The internship can run at the same time as the course, within the 180 days of access.

Frequently asked questions

What job does the Cryptocurrencies course prepare me for, and does it replace a Chainalysis certification?

The Cryptocurrencies course is built around the work of a junior compliance or AML analyst at a crypto-asset service provider: classifying assets under MiCA, assessing custody, applying KYC and the Travel Rule, and reading blockchain-analytics reports. It does not replace vendor certifications from Chainalysis, TRM Labs or Elliptic. The materials treat such certifications as credentials layered on top of regulatory understanding, so it is worth checking each vendor's current requirements on its own website.

Do I need to be able to code or understand blockchain technically to work in crypto compliance?

No. The course materials state plainly that a compliance analyst does not need to write a line of code. What the role demands is knowing who agreed that a transaction happened, who controls the keys, which MiCA category an asset falls into and what a risk score actually proves. The course builds that understanding step by step, starting from the trust problem and basic wallet mechanics.

Which regulations, tools and methods does the course cover?

In the EU: MiCA (CASP authorisation, whitepapers, passporting, e-money and asset-referenced tokens), the Travel Rule, AML/KYC duties, DORA incident reporting and ESMA's CASP register. In the US: the GENIUS Act, the CLARITY Act and the SEC/CFTC jurisdiction question, and the Howey test after SEC v. Ripple. Methods include reserve coverage ratios, NVT and MVRV, TVL, moving averages, RSI and blockchain-analytics risk scores from tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs and Elliptic.

What could I do in the internship, and who finds the host company?

You find the host company yourself; the school issues the internship agreement and its annex, which the company signs electronically, usually within one to two working days. Suitable placements include compliance or AML desks at crypto platforms and fintechs, where you might review KYC files, check Travel Rule data, verify CASP authorisations on ESMA's register, or help assess stablecoin reserve disclosures and token metrics.
